Show Review from the Birmingham Owl:

Gifford's is a most sensational act. He has just one leg which 'he uses with daring and agility'. He launches himself from a platform suspended close to the ceiling, into a huge tank of water which was built on the floor of the pit. The drop is thirty or forty feet. 'Once the audience recovered from their astonishment, he was rewarded with resounding applause.
